He ruled for thirty years and was succeeded as tyrant by his son Periander in 627 BC. He was a popular ruler and, unlike many later tyrants, he did not need a bodyguard and died a natural death.
He married the Pleiad Merope by whom he became the father of Glaucus, Ornytion, Thersander, Almus and Porphyrion.
Periander was married to Melissa, daughter of the tyrant of Epidaurus Procles 3. In the 7th century B.C., when Corinth was ruled by tyrants Cypselus and Periander, the city sent colonists to found new settlements.

550 BC: Construction of the Temple of Apollo at Corinth (early third quarter of the 6th century BC).[26]. This caused King Sisyphus to end up on the shores of the river Styx.
